Editorial update: October 16, 2026. General educational information.
Division orders and checkstubs should be reconciled with executed leases, recorded title, production months, allocation factors, royalty decimals and deductions. Signing a division order should not be treated as proof that every underlying ownership or accounting dispute has been resolved.
Reconstruct the decimal
For a simple proportionate unit example: mineral ownership fraction × tract acres / total participating acres × lease royalty fraction. The actual calculation may require tract factors, horizontal allocations, depth restrictions, burdens and separate product streams.
Read a checkstub
Check each payment against the itemized reporting requirements in Wyo. Stat. § 30-5-305(b). The statutory fields include the identifying well or property, month and year of sales, volume sold, price, state taxes, itemized deductions and adjustments, net sales value, owner’s decimal, owner’s gross and net share, and a contact for questions, subject to the alternative of otherwise providing the information regularly each month. The statute additionally requires a certified-mail answer within 30 days when a qualifying information request is sent by certified mail. Compare production and sales months before asserting a discrepancy.
Detect questions
Watch for unexpected decimal changes, missing months, negative adjustments, inappropriate cost categories, unexplained suspense, major volume discrepancies and changes in well/owner number.
Owner workflow
Maintain a month-by-month workbook; match operator reported volumes to public production data where comparable; tie decimals to governing documents; request written explanations and preserve correspondence. Regulatory reporting volume and sales-volume accounting may legitimately differ.
Official starting points
Official Wyoming statutes, § 30-5-305 (a division order may not alter the governing lease or contract; required royalty reporting); WOGCC well and production records; the actual recorded lease, approved unit instruments and owner pay statements. Confirm law effective on the applicable payment dates.
This guide provides general education. Verify effective dates and the application of authorities to the particular facts. Consult the linked official sources and the original deeds, leases, orders and other records before acting. Browsing this guide or sending an inquiry does not create a professional engagement; services require a separate written agreement.
Verification guidance: Compare division-order decimal interests and payment records against executed leases, title instruments and actual production; retain disputed exceptions for review.
